There have been many difficult moments that have exploded within this past year, one of which was the Syrian refugee crisis.
Some people jump right in to volunteer their help despite their fears.
Others, fear that opening their borders will not only lead to the exploitation of their resources, but will also invite outside terrorism within borders.
Regardless of whatever you believe in, it's much easier to judge this situation from the safety of your own bedroom with an unbombed roof over your head after a day of 3 full meals at a table without a single empty chair - surrounded by the comfort of all your family members who have neither been killed nor abducted.
Here is a very powerful video produced by filmmaker, Lior Sperandeo, who "captures the raw emotion of life as a refugee. According to the UN, 3,300 refugees and migrants are arriving on the Greek island of Lesvos every day. See a harrowing landing in this striking short film that captures the poignant story of Syrian people seeking safety and those that come to their aid" (National Geographic).
In Mr. Sperandeo's own words, "I have heard and read different opinions about the wave of Syrian refugees who try to make their way in to EU. Then I went to Lesvos. 7 Days on the Greek Island gave me a healthier human perspective on the situation. Seeing in my own eyes the people behind the headlines and feeling their deep struggle, broke my heart.
Is this the “threat” people talk about? All I could see was courages people in a crisis. I also got to meet brave volunteers from all over the world who reach out to help all people regardless of their religion, race or background. That inspired me.
My hope is that this video will shake some of the bad ideas we sometimes feed ourselves with."
It's not about if you can help, but how you can help.
